Looking for some good gifts for the gardener in your life? Whether they’re an experienced gardener or a beginner, there’s bound to be something on this list of the best gifts for gardeners!

best gifts for gardeners

When it comes to finding gift ideas for the gardener in your life, you’re in luck.

There are all kinds of tools and gadgets that make gardening easier which make perfect presents.

I already own most of the products on this year’s gardening gift guide, and I’m including them because I think every gardener needs them.

Others are things that I don’t have yet but would love to add to my ever-growing gardening tool collection. (That’s a not-so-subtle hint to any of my friends and family members that are reading this.)

And if you’re looking for inexpensive gift ideas, check out the stocking stuffers section at the bottom.

So let’s get started on my 2021 list of the best gifts for gardeners.

Fold Up Garden Cart

fold-up garden cart with weeds in it

Like most gardeners, it seems like I am always hauling things around the garden…plants, weeds, statues, bird baths, Halloween skeletons…you get the idea.

So a garden cart is a necessity!

But since I live in a suburban house that doesn’t have a lot of storage, finding a place to keep a large wagon or wheel barrow is a challenge.

fold-up cart being folded out

Which is why this fold-up cart* is one of my favorite (and most-used) gardening accessories.

It has large 8″ wheels, can hold up to 150 pounds, has a couple of pockets at the front that will hold weeding tools and folds down to 9″ in width. So you can store it almost anywhere.

This cart is also a lot lighter than your standard wagon or wheel barrow, so it’s a lot easier to move around. Great for elderly gardeners or for taking to to those plant sales where you have to bring your own cart.

It’s even available in different colors…like pink!

Fold Up Portable Garden Seat

the many uses of a portable garden seat

Speaking of fold-able products, this fold-up garden seat* that can also be used as a kneeling pad is another one of my favorites.

Having a garden seat makes those long days of pruning and weeding more comfortable by providing a place to sit.

And the handles make it easier for elderly gardeners to get up.

It’s light and easy to move around.

This combined with the fold-up wagon makes weeding a little easier.

Collapsible Garbage Can

collapsible garbage can

While we’re talking about fold-down garden products that are light and easy-to-transpart, this collapsible garbage* can is another must-have.

It’s light weight and easy to transport which makes dumping leaves or grass clippings onto the compost pile so much easier.

Then when you’re done, it folds up so it hardly takes up any storage space at all!

Bulb Planter

Bulb Planter

For gardeners that like to plant tulips, daffodils, and all kinds of other bulbs, this bulb planting tool* is a huge time saver!

Attach it to a drill and it does all of the work.

I prefer one with a shaft that is a little longer so you can stay standing while you drill the holes.

It’s also important that the end which goes into the drill is hexagonal, not round. Otherwise it will come loose during use which is really annoying!

PowerGear Bypass Loppers

bypass loppers cutting off a branch

These bypass loppers* have a special gear-based closing mechanism that lets you cut up to 2″ branches with hardly any effort at all.

They are a little more expensive than some of the other loppers around, but they are so easy to cut with it is definitely worth the price!

I love mine so much that I use it for pretty much all of the pruning in my garden.

Battery-Powered Leaf Blower

cordless leaf blower

I didn’t even own a Leaf Blower until I got this cordless one*.

I always figured I would never use it, because trying start a gas-powered one is just too hard. (Not to mention that you have to remember to buy gas!)

But now that I have one with a rechargeable battery, my deck, patio and sidewalks are cleaner than they have ever been!

The battery lasts for about 30 minutes before it needs to be re-charged, which is just long enough to get the job done.

As an added bonus, it uses the same batteries as the Ryobi cordless tool line. So if you already own some of those, this tool will fit right in!

What’s the one thing that all gardeners have in common?

Weeds!

Whether you’re buying for a beginner or experienced gardener, these next few garden gift ideas will help to make getting rid of the weeds a little easier.

Ergonomic Weeder

Ergonomic weeder

The long end on this weeder* makes it easier to dig down to the bottom of the weed roots so you can get the whole thing out…perfect for getting rid of dandelions once and for all!

And the large O-shaped handle makes it easier to get a good grip on the tool.

Crevice Weeder

This hand tool* with a thin sharp edge makes removing weeds from between patio stones or the crack on the driveway much easier.

The sharp corner on the back of the blade can be used to cut the weeds and the long end pulls them out.

Hori Hori Japanese Digging Tool

Hori Hori Japanese digging tool

The Hori Hori garden knife* is next on my list of the best gifts for gardeners.

This tool is perfect for planting new plants or bulbs, and also works great for weeding.

The sharp edge of the blade acts like a knife making it easy to cut through the dirt (or weed roots).

Look for one with measurements on the blade which makes planting bulbs to the correct depth much easier!

Flame Thrower Weed Killer

Yep…you read that right. A flame thrower weed killer*!

It’s basically a hose that hooks up to a propane tank.

You light the end and then point the flame at the weeds…and they die!

Since flames can harm any type of plant, this isn’t a great weeding tool for your garden beds.

But I love mine for getting rid of the weeds growing up between the flagstones on my patio, or the cracks in the driveway.

Just be sure not to use it in areas where there are lots of dry leaves (or other flammable materials) since you can start a fire pretty easily.

These last few gift ideas are for the gardener who has everything! Chances are they won’t have all of these…

Haws Watering Can

Haws watering can

The Haws watering can* has been made in England for more than 100 years and there’s a good reason why.

It is perfectly balanced to make pouring water without spilling effortless.

The long spout makes it easy to water those hard-to-reach hanging baskets.  And there’s a filter that prevents the spout from getting clogged with debris.

You can get them in the original metal finish (such as this one) or the plastic variety which has the same great ergonomics with a smaller price tag.

I have 2 of them and I wouldn’t trade them for anything!

Tomato Crater

For people who love to grow tomatoes, the tomato crater* makes an awesome gift!

The red color has been scientifically proven to stimulate plant growth.

While the plastic ring keeps soil diseases from splashing up onto the plant leaves and keeps tomato plants healthier.

It also helps to keep the soil temperature regulated and can be used for tomato plants in containers as well.

Wormery

wormery composter

To take composting to the next level, a wormery* is what you need.

And it’s not something that most gardeners already own.

You add your compost materials to the pile and the worms turn it into really good compost in a few weeks.

And you get the bonus of “worm tea” collected in the bottom which is an excellent organic fertilizer.

BUY IT HERE.*

Robot Lawn Mower

robot lawn mower

This robot lawn mower* is like a Roomba for your yard.

It starts from a home base and then roams around your yard cutting the grass, using a wire that you install around your lawn as the outside edge.

They are a little pricey but might be worth it to never have to worry about your grass being too long 🙂

Retractable Hose Reel

Retractable hose reel installed on a wall

This retractable hose reel* makes storing hoses a cinch.

Pull it out to use it. Then give it a tug to have it automatically coil back up.

The reel also folds back against the wall so it doesn’t stick out too far.

And if you need to use the hose somewhere else, the whole reel can be lifted off its post.

Rain Chains

Here’s the last option for this year’s gardening gift guide.

Rain chains* are a great way to replace the downspouts on a house with a more attractive (but still functional) solution.

If you’re not sure what they are, you can read all about rain chains HERE.

They are available in all sorts of colors and designs and look really pretty when water is running down them.

Raised Herb Garden

raised herb garden

For the aspiring herb gardener who doesn’t have a large yard (or just doesn’t want to bend down to pick their herbs), this raised herb garden* is perfect!

Dividers and liner for the herb planter

It comes with dividers that create separate 7″ x 10″ spaces (about 6″ deep) for each herb.

And the included liner protects the wood and helps to keep the water in.

Finally, the shelf underneath is the perfect plant to keep your watering can and fertilizer, so they are close at hand for taking care of the herbs.

Stocking Stuffers

These next few items are all fairly small and pretty inexpensive. Which makes them great stocking stuffers.

Digz Gardening Gloves

gardening gloves

In my opinion, a gardener can never have too many gloves! And these are the best gloves for every day gardening that I’ve ever had.

I’ve given up buying the really cheap ones since they never last more than one weeding session without getting holes in the fingers.

So I was thrilled to find these ones* that are are still pretty inexpensive but I’ve been able to wear all summer and they’re still going strong!

They are available in different sizes, are totally washable, come in leather and water-proof options, and have special finger pads that will let you use your phone or iPad without taking them off. Which is awesome if you like to listen to music or podcasts while you’re gardening.

BUY THEM HERE.*

Claw Garden Gloves

claw garden gloves

Since we’re talking about gloves, these ones with claws at the ends of the fingers* are another one of my favorites.

If you live in an area with clay soil (like I do), these are a life finger saver!

Whether you are trying to scrape away compacted mulch, digging a small hole for a plant plug or just generally using your hands as a shovel, those claws really come in handy!

The gloves are also water proof, and you can get them with claws on just one hand or both.

BUY THEM HERE*.

Rose Garden Gloves

rose pruning gloves

Yes, number three on my gardening gifts list is another type of gloves (I told you I had a thing for gloves!).

If your gardener’s yard has any kind of bushes with thorns (roses, raspberries, blackberries, etc), then these are the garden gloves* they need!

They really are thorn-proof, fit well enough that you can still have full finger motion, and the elbow-length cuff helps protect your arms from scratches.

Velcro Plant Ties

velcro plant ties

My mother gave me these velcro plant ties* as a stocking stuffer for Christmas a couple of years ago and they are still at the top of the list for my favorite gardening products! They make my life so much easier.

Just cut the velcro to the right length, wrap it around the plant and stake, and stick the ends together.  No string or ties required!

If you find that you have tied it in the wrong place, no problem!

Unstick the velcro, move it to the right place and stick it back together.

Gardening Twist Ties

gardening twist ties

While the velcro ties are great for plants that are fairly easy to contain, these twist ties* are awesome when you need something a little sturdier…like tying up melon vines, or hanging tomato cages from the shed rafters.

The cutter is attached to the spool, so there’s no need to carry around a pair of scissors (that will inevitably get left/lost in the garden somewhere).

And it’s long enough that you can tie up pretty much anything!

Write-On Plant Labels

write-on plant labels

The next item on my gifts for gardeners list are these write-on plant labels*.

They will make sure the gardener in your family remembers what was planted where.

They are tall enough that they won’t get lost on the ground and wide enough to print the longest plant name.

I love that these copper ones that will develop a beautiful patina over time. However, if copper isn’t your thing, they are available in a variety of other colors and styles.

To make the printing doesn’t wash off in the rain, get one of these garden markers* to go with the plant labels.

Light/PH/Moisture Sensor

light/pH/Moisture sensor

This garden sensor* is a simple way to get the moisture, pH and light readings that make choosing the right plants so much easier.

Although not as accurate as a proper soil test, it’s a lot less expensive and is usually good enough to point you in the right direction for making your plants happy.
